چکیده

Social stress can affect the ability of fish to respond various stressors, such as pathogens or environmental variations. In this paper, effects social on gilt-head bream (Sparus aurata) were investigated. To study physiological stress, we evaluated biochemical and cellular parameters, cortisol, glucose, lactate, osmolarity, phagocytosis, 24 h after establishment hierarchy in a group three fish. was determined characterized by behavioral observation (aggressive acts feeding order) specimens (dominant: “?”; subordinate: “?” “?”). After hierarchy, observed that, overall, levels plasma cortisol other plasmatic markers (glucose lactate) higher subordinate individuals than dominant individuals. addition, modulation phagocytic activity peritoneal exudate cells (PECs) demonstrated that appeared immune response. Finally, principal component analysis clearly separated groups from groups, based cells. This contributes current knowledge sea bream, helping understand link between behavior, physiology species, relevant aquaculture sector, where are subjected several kinds stress.

Chemotaxis of pathogenic Vibrio strains towards mucus surfaces of gilt-head sea bream (Sparus aurata L.).

Vibrio anguillarum and Vibrio alginolyticus exhibited significant adhesion to and chemotactic abilities towards mucus collected from the skin, gills, and intestine of gilt-head sea bream. Quadratic polynomial models for chemotaxis designed to estimate the influence of temperature demonstrated a differential bacterial chemotaxis depending of the source of the mucus, with the chemotaxis towards i...

Pathogenicity of Vibrio alginolyticus for cultured gilt-head sea bream (Sparus aurata L.).

The in vivo and in vitro pathogenic activities of whole cells and extracellular products of Vibrio alginolyticus for cultured gilt-head sea bream were evaluated. The 50% lethal doses ranged from 5.4 x 10(4) to 1.0 x 10(6) CFU/g of body weight. The strains examined had the ability to adhere to skin, gill, and intestinal mucus of sea bream and to cultured cells of a chinook salmon embryo cell lin...

Isolation and characterization of a fish F-type lectin from gilt head bream (Sparus aurata) serum.

A novel fucose-binding lectin, designated SauFBP32, was purified by affinity chromatography on fucose-agarose, from the serum of the gilt head bream Sparus aurata. Electrophoretic mobility of the subunit revealed apparent molecular weights of 35 and 30 kDa under reducing and non-reducing conditions, respectively. Size exclusion analysis suggests that the native lectin is a monomer under the sel...

The stress response of the gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) to air exposure and confinement.

We investigated short-term effects (up to 24 h) of air exposure and confinement, and long-term effects (up to 11 days) of confinement, to elucidate signalling pathways in the stress response of gilthead sea bream Sparus aurata L. Plasma glucose and lactate were taken as indicators of sympathetic activation, and alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH...

Differential effects on proliferation of GH and IGFs in sea bream (Sparus aurata) cultured myocytes.

Primary culture of gilthead sea bream skeletal muscle cells was used to examine the effects of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) in fish muscle proliferation and growth. Proliferation was measured as the percentage of positive cells expressing the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) analyzed by immunocytochemistry. First, the effects of GH from two different origi...
